It has been a very long time since I have actually cared about regional events. However, this season of the CFPS has really gotten me interested in local teams in the Florida area. The competition level at the CFPS is far higher than I have witnessed at any other event in Florida. Just being a spectator at the CFPS is an enjoyable time. The action really resembles what you will see when you make a trip to the PSP World Cup at Disney. Event 3 is where you will see the intensity level be taken up another notch. The off-season is now completely over and all teams are in the full swing of the season. Tournament points are really starting to matter now as teams are scrambling to get the highest possible finishes to boost their national rankings. Let’s get to the preview:

Layout:
MAO Layout

The MAO layout is certainly interesting. I have seen games go extremely fast on this layout but I have also seen games take an eternity to finish. I still don't know what to think about it... I know that both sides of the field are pretty strong in their own respects. As long as you are controlling your opponents snake player the dorito side can move up fairly quickly to score some kills. The 50 dorito is a very key bunker on this layout, if your team can make it there alive; you have a good shot at winning your game. I have also noticed that another key bunker is the medium dorito that is located on each side of the race bunker, right up the middle. This bunker is VERY important as it can control both the first link of the snake and the 50 dorito move. You have to send someone here who has excellent gun skills both left and right handed as this person can really lock this layout down.

Division 5 Preview:

This division got a LOT more interesting in event 2. There were 16 teams competing in event 2; having such a large division made this division especially interesting. Right off the bat you can tell which teams were the best in this division. I was extremely impressed with a few teams, namely the two Fatality teams, and USF Bulls (who are no longer competing in D5). These teams showed an awful lot of potential to be very dangerous at the next level. Fatality has a young team and phenomenal coaching; you put those two things together and you can easily see they are going to be very competitive. The USF Bulls bounced out of this division and moved up to D4 for this next event. However, I have heard that the Bulls will be setting up a second team to compete in D5. My opinion on what happens here will probably depend on whether or not Stirr Chili decides to play this event; they didn't play event 1. I see this event coming down to one of the Fatality teams, Stirr Chili, or NXK Reaction. Expect all of these teams to be well prepared and ready to play. If I had to choose a team, I take Fatality Green to finally get a win, followed by Fatality Blue and Stirr Chili.

Division 4 Preview:

Division 4 simply has a lot of talent. ECE and Fatality Red are the class of this division; both of these teams fared extremely well in event 2. ECE didn't play event 1 and it will be interesting to see if they return for round 3. Blackout Paintball had a disappointing showing at the second event. I know these players are good I've seen them play on a number of occasions. I know they can play better and I expect them to really impact this third event. The USF Bulls decided to throw themselves into this mix for event 3. I really don't know how well they are going to fare against this D4 competition. I know they certainly have the individual skill to play here and maybe even in D3, but what concerns me is the lack of direction and a lack of coaching. They don't have a coach at all and go completely on individual skill. I was at CFP this weekend and I got to see both the D4 and D5 USF lines face off against CFP Factory and some of the Palm Beach Vipers lines. In scrimmages USF's D4 team rarely lost to Palm Beach Outsiders but struggled against CFP's D3 X-Ball line. The D5 line for USF wasn't as fortunate. Expect USF to make an impact but who knows how they will fare after prelims. I see ECE losing just a few in the prelims but turning it around in the semis and in the finals to take home first place. Right behind them will be any of these teams: Blackout, Fatality Red, USF, or TU Stealth in no particular order.

Division 3 Preview:

This division is no joke. If you want to come watch this event make sure you catch some of these games. The team I like for event 3 if going to be the FL Annihilators. Did I mention they are coached by Mike Paxson? They DOMINATED event 1, going undefeated in prelims and in finals. They didn't fare as well in event 2, who knows, maybe they were over confident. I think not winning event 2 was a reality check for this team and is just going to make them work harder. I have heard rumblings that Palm Beach might send a squad for event 3, if that happens then this could get very interesting. When you mix in teams like TU Infusion, Merk Status, and Das Boooot you can see how this event could get crazy. Annihilators win it regardless of if Palm Beach sends a squad. If PBV sends a team I see them placing second. If not, I like TU Infusion and Merk Status to follow.

Masters:

I know, I can't forget the old guys! These guys have been some of the people to lay the groundwork for the people playing in the divisional. These games are fun to watch because you won't see ANY cheating or bad sportsmanship, you see pure paintball. A lot of these guys have focused their attention on the coaching aspect of the game and are quite content teaching kids the game and helping the sport grow; don't be fooled though, they certainly know how to shoot. Men at Work have guys like Rico Fernandez, an accomplished player and current coach of team fatality. To go along with Rico they have Tim Altman who used to run team Speed out of Gator paintball. That is a pretty good combination right there. CFP Masters has some talent though, led by John "Senior" Smith. They won the last event and I look for them to continue their streak and take it again!
