Event #3 of the Central Florida Paintball Series is in the books. This event really solidified the CFPS as the top league in Florida by a long shot. For the second consecutive time, the CFPS brought in over 40 teams from all over the state. There was plenty of media coverage including top photographers like Tim Larson of PBX3 magazine and video coverage from Kaos Media.

I arrived Sunday and noticed that the TV field from the NCPA tournament was left at CFP and was to be in use for the tournament. With the addition of this field, there were four fields of action at CFPS #3. On each field, the snake side was set up as the designated spectator area; coaching was aloud from snake side only. As always, the fields were level and the grass was looking good. The players started to arrive in masses around 7:00 am. The event was on schedule, teams were signing in and getting themselves registered. After the captains meeting the games were ready to get underway.

The games ran extremely smooth all day. Team after team was playing their games… It was like clockwork, I didn’t see any delays.

In Division 5 there was a few things that really surprised me. The most surprising of them all was seeing a finalist in CFPS #2 only win ONE of SIX prelim games in the same division. That team - Stirr Chili… At event 2 they showed and awful lot of promise… I really don’t know what happened to them but they really just got blasted off the field and went home with a 1-5 record. I had Stirr Chili placing again, so it was disappointing to see them fall off like that. GoggedPB has also received information from a confidential source that Stirr Chili, was not only serving Chili… but tea:

A team that played pretty impressively in the prelims was “Stanky Leg”. I’m fairly certain that this was a throw together team of people who can probably play a bit higher than the beginner division. They played well in the prelims nonetheless. Unfortunately for Stanky Leg they couldn’t hold their own in the finals. Tampa United Stealth Black was was one of the best teams in D5 on Sunday. They blew away the competition, only dropping 2 games all day. However, Patty’s Army went on to win the D5 crown. They defeated TU Stealth on two separate occasions… Once in the semis and once in the finals!

Division 4 saw some new teams jump into the action. The two that made the largest impact was team Speed and the USF Bulls. These two newcomers to CFPS D4 dominated the prelims and finished seeds 1 and 2 respectively. I actually saw a Bulls player take X off break and kill all 5 opponents in one game. At the end of the prelims it looked as if these two teams would compete for the title. Both teams got a BYE into the final round.

Teams who also fared extremely well in the prelims were Orlando Doom, Stealth Allstars, Fatality Red, and East Coast Extreme. The aforementioned teams battled it out to see who would take the last two spots in the final round. Fatality Red was able to dust off a mediocre prelim performance and turn it up in the semis. Fatality Red and Stealth All-Stars were able to secure those two remaining finals spots.

In the finals it came down to Speed, USF Bulls, Stealth All-Stars and Fatality Red. Right from the start you could tell Fatality Red was hot, and USF was not. The Bulls had a massive break between prelims and finals which may have led to their sloppy performance in the final round. Fatality Red went on to defeat the Bulls and team Speed. In Fatality’s last game, they played Stealth All-Stars who were able to draw with Fatality. Fatality Red went on to be the D4 champs (again).

Annihilators CFPS 3

In Division 3 the Annihilators stole the show… They destroyed basically everyone. It was certainly their tournament. They lost once in the preliminary rounds but that was it. Annihilators finished with a final record of 7-1. The only teams that were any match for the Annihilators was Fatality Orange and TU Infusion. TU Infusion hurt themselves early when they lost a game on bodies to Fatality Orange because the clock expired. Infusion won their next match in the Finals but couldn’t get it done against the Annihilators.

To wrap it all up it was a great event. There was tons of teams and excellent paintball was played. There isn’t much more you can ask for from a tournament series. The only thing I can think of is use a horn to start games? Awsome tournament and congradulations to the winners!
